Los Angeles, CA -( LA Auto Show ) November 28, 2012 –   Veteran Automotive/Aerospace Journalist/Analyst, ZINTRO Expert and eMOTION! REPORTS.com Publisher Myron D. Stokes, an award-winning former Newsweek, Newsweek Japan, Newsweek International special correspondent and Interim Bureau Chief, will be available for interviews covering a wide range of automotive/aerospace industry subjects inclusive of product technology, emerging markets, crisis management, the short sightedness of offshoring manufacturing capacity and the technology associated; a re-emergent US auto industry, and the economic and national security implications of failing to protect and secure the country’s ability to manufacture things of value. http://ht.ly/fGPOO

“The US cannot exist as as consumer/service economy in the manner of Las Vegas,” says Stokes, “and expect to maintain its status, in symbiotic relationship with Great Britain, as THE world power economically and militarily.”

Moreover, Stokes is convinced, along with colleagues in the US policy shaping arena inclusive of the United States-China Economic and Security Commission (www.USCC.gov), that US, European and Asian auto companies are at profound risk of losing virtually all control of manufacturing operations in China. http://ht.ly/fGWAY     http://ht.ly/fGWsA

“It is critical that we  change that conversation in light of the  economically devastating effects of overly permissive trade regulatory processes that forced  US automotive and aerospace  entities to compete as companies, while  their international competitors operated as  countries, with the full power and resources of their parent nations,” Stokes said.  “Free trade must be fair, and our  Chinese colleagues, despite having  performed an economic miracle in recent years that rivals that of Japan in the ’80s and ’90’s and membership in the WTO, are  not interested in relinquishing one iota of  the economic advantage they have given their ‘indigenous’ auto companies.” http://ht.ly/fGRqr

Stokes has proven capable of discussing virtually every aspect of auto industry analysis with a particular focus on the China presence of western car firms.  He can discuss the risk/benefit of such presence by GM, Ford, Chrysler, the Europeans inclusive of VW; and the Japanese car companies who have  been declared for all intents and purposes “enemies of the state”.  Among other topics: whether the “bailout” of GM and Chrysler was really necessary and why Ford refused; the uncomfortable role that Wall Street played in creating a circumstance that made GM, Ford and Chrysler vulnerable to offshore takeover in the interest of short term gain.

GM Bankruptcy/TATA/Jaguar Land Rover
Stokes was directly involved in an effort to stop the declaration of GM bankruptcy through re-evaluation of global assets; coordinated with concerned European governments -excluding Germany – to prevent GM’s attempts to offload Opel resulting in an intervention by those governments; and a very specific role in changing the circumstances under which the Jaguar/Land Rover sale to TATA would occur by bringing Mahindra and Mahindra back to the acquisition table in conjunction with one of the world’s most powerful investment banking institutions working through Ford’s then CFO.

 Chrysler/Kerkorian   Toyota Intelligence Gathering
Among archived industrial base preservation activities, Stokes helped prevent the
Kerkorian takeover of Chrysler by bringing a “White Knight” into the mix and presented
to the Chrysler board through a senior communications executive. The intervention was
conveyed during an overseas call from Tokyo during the 1995 Tokyo Motor Show. It is now possible to reveal that the late Sir Alex Trotman approved Ford Motor Company’s acting in this capacity following a lengthy interaction with Stokes during a Ford media program.

Toyota Intelligence Gathering  – As Toyota grew in power, profit and influence through its US and global marketing presence which led to its supplanting GM as the world’s largest manufacturer of automobiles, the company’s public comments seemed to be increasingly dismissive of their US counterparts who were complaining about the trade imbalance and quite limited access to the Japanese market.  A trade war was averted in 1995 when Japan agreed to relax its market access requirements subsequent to discussions with then SECCOM Ron Brown (later killed in a Croatia plane crash) and Deputy Mickey Cantor.

In the ensuing years, not much changed relative to Toyota’s view of GM, Ford and Chrysler as competitors, and despite the fact that the company’s US presence was quite legal in addition to an emergent symbiotic relationship between the US and Japan economies, the preservation team decided that a modification of Toyota’s strongly influential position was in order.  Approval was sought in 2002 from US intelligence services to reveal the results of a 1988 global analysis of intelligence gathering activities by major powers, and rather than confirming that the various agencies reviewed were at the top of their game (CIA, NSA, KGB, MI-6, Mossad, et al) Toyota was assessed as the best intelligence gathering organization in the world.

Utilizing a dedicated satellite, 250,000 encrypted messages per day were sent between Toyota City and Torrance.  The CIA was sending half that amount at the time globally…

As a professor of economics at Wayne State University who was made aware of these data proffered at the time:  “Does Toyota have the right to encrypt potentially sensitive corporate data in the form of memos, reports, marketing strategies and Research and Developmental activities?  Absolutely yes.  But, did they provide the de-cryption codes to US intelligence services as required and agreed to between the respective governments?  Apparently no, they didn’t, and by failing to do so placed the entire Toyota organization operating in the west at profound risk.  Had they chosen to do so, the US government would have been perfectly within its rights to confiscate the company’s manufacturing operations, freeze its financial assets, and detain its executive personnel.  Obviously, and perhaps wisely, they didn’t.”

“In spite of the US deciding no punitive actions were required, Stokes observed, “Toyota’s stance changed remarkably, even to the point of defending and offering assistance to GM, Ford and Chrysler during the quite regrettable Congressional ‘bailout’ hearings of 2008.”

On the aerospace side, a recent analysis of Boeing Dreamliner with specific focus on the issues of a nearly unprecedented conjoining of composites to metal within critical
aircraft structure, induced a rethinking of this approach and questioned, as did a GAO analysis, the viability, accuracy and appropriateness of FAA certification processes for aircraft extensively utilizing composites. (Google -Boeing Dreamliner Analysis).

“Once Again, The Chinese… Have  Proven Themselves Masters of the Endgame, and True Progeny of Sun Tzu…”  -Myron D. Stokes, Publisher and the eMOTION! REPORTS.com Industry Analytics Team

Euphemistic Audacity: eMOTION! REPORTS.com Responds to GM China’s Kevin Wales’ Praise of “Innovation Through Commercialization”.

Excerpt:    “What Kevin Wales euphemistically calls China’s process of ‘Innovation
through commercialization’
to accelerate technology prove-out and
utilization, is simply considered, by every other industrialized society, as
theft, industrial espionage, illegal acquisition of intellectual property,
patent right infringement, unfair trade practice by government subsidization…

“In other words, economic war on a massive scale, coupled with an endgame
strategy epitomizing zero sum. Grammatically, we rank ‘Innovation through commercialization’ right along with ‘ethnic cleansing’ in sheer euphemistic audacity.

“Mr. Wales and other GM executives have played -willingly or unwittingly- into the most reprehensible example of (perhaps) illegal transfer of wealth, technology, production process and economic stability at the DNA level in the history of the world. And of greater concern, a concomitant compromise of US national security through provision of sensitive
technologies -like the neodymium magnets pioneered by former GM subsidiary
Magnequench which was itself inexplicably purchased by the Chinese in the same
time frame GM resumed sales in that country- with weapons applicability to
China’s military.  No, Mel Brooks (History of The World, Part I) is not laughing, nor is Ford amused amidst  recent reports of an F-150 ‘commercialization’ by a Chinese car firm.   And yes, you should be worried: The Once Great Britain learned the hard way as it woke up to the fact that world-renowned brands spawned within its borders were now owned by offshore others, while reducing its manufacturing base capacity to pre-industrial levels.”     Go to full analysis

Defence Policy Analyst: “China’s Arrogance and Belief They are Next World Power Makes War With US/UK Inevitable and Soon”

chinese-flag-640_0_0.jpgDecember 13, 2010 (PressReleasePoint)– Washington, DC    Comments subsequent to an Asia tour this year from a highly respected defense policy analyst who has served in previous administrations, seem to confirm the concerns by several key officials within the US Department of Defense, the UK Ministry of Defence and the crafters of a recently released report by the United States-China Economic and Security Review Commission (USCC.gov) that China is on a collision course with Western powers extending beyond the reality of its sustained economic war against other countries.

“The arrogance, dismissiveness and disrespect for the US in particular by senior Chinese officials during our visit was not only profound, but deeply disturbing,” said this analyst, speaking on condition of anonymity. “China’s current rate of growth is unsustainable, so much so that if it were to continue for the next two decades, another planet earth would be required. Even more alarming is that when presented with clear data supporting this contention, our Chinese colleagues made it obvious that “‘Even if it is necessary to grow beyond our borders, the current initiatives and policies will be maintained.’

“China”, the analyst continued, “is convinced that supplanting the US/UK as the dominant super-power; is within its grasp and will brook no conversations, observations, recommendations or warnings that suggest otherwise. Moreover, the idea that China can be dealt with based on a perception of a melded Confucianism/Shinto/Buddhist ideology-based paternalistic benevolency, is completely without merit. And is indeed, downright dangerous.

Confucian Philosophy Eliminated

“The quiet wisdom advocated by Confucius calling for respect of all others while being defenders of justice, has completely disappeared from China’s philosophy of governance; the victim of the Cultural Revolution initiated by Mao.” Suffice it to say that China 2010 is ideologically the mirror of Communist China 1949.

“Those who focus only on the potential of doing business within an explosive China economy,” he said, “while turning a blind eye to its stunning, ominous, military build-up, may find themselves in a most uncomfortable position as major global firms lose control of their China operations in a manner consistent with Buffett BYD plant confiscations. At the same time, the break out of hostilities against Japan and Taiwan is a distinct near to mid-term possibility.”

The analyst’s observations are well supported by learned others:

In his opening statement, [United States-China Economic and Security Review] Commission Chairman Dan Slane said “The 2010 Annual Report (released 17 November) reflects the Commission’s conclusions that China has failed in some notable areas to fulfill the promises it made nine years ago when it joined the World Trade Organization. Specifically, China is adopting a highly discriminatory policy of favoring domestic producers over foreign manufacturers. Under the guise of fostering “indigenous innovation” in its economy, the government of China appears determined to exclude foreigners from bidding on government contracts… In addition, China has proposed that its many state-owned corporations be exempt from WTO rules on procurement. The Chinese government quite simply intends to wall off a majority of its economy from international competition.”

In her opening statement, Vice Chairman Carolyn Bartholomew commented on China’s military modernization, saying “As a result of China’s improved offensive air and missile capabilities, the Chinese military has strengthened its capacity to threaten U.S. forces and bases in the region. Currently, China’s conventional missile capabilities alone may be sufficient to temporarily knock out five of the six U.S. air bases in East Asia. Saturation missile strikes could destroy U.S. air defenses, runways, parked aircraft, and fuel and maintenance facilities. Complicating this scenario is the future deployment of China’s anti-ship ballistic missile, which could hold U.S. aircraft carriers at bay outside their normal operating range.”

Western Companies Warned

The analyst further advised that “Western companies, inclusive of GM, Ford, VW, Boeing and Airbus, with significant investment in China-based manufacturing infrastructure and the proprietary processes PRC officials have demanded as a requirement to do business in the world’s most populous country, should thoroughly examine — Japanese companies have already done so — their exit and loss prevention strategies… now.”

” All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near. Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him.” – Sun Tzu, The Art of War; 6th Century B.C.

Detroit, MI September 21, 2010 (PressReleasePoint) -UPDATE: eMOTION! REPORTS.com (http://emotionreportscom.blogspot/ )  Sources are advising that officials within the US government, despite strong objections voiced by representatives of both CFIUS (Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States) and the Department of Defense (DoD), are “encouraging” China’s SAIC to take a controlling interest in GM, with the intent of neutralizing its near-USD 50bil interest.

“Compromising national security”, said a source who asked not to be identified as they were not authorized to speak on the adminstration’s behalf, “in the interest of ‘balancing the budget’ with a Communist, dictatorial regime identified by the Annual Report to Congress: Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s Republic of China 2010 (http://ow.ly/2JrTt)  as a clear and emergent ‘threat’ is not wise. It is our hope that wiser minds will prevail, considering the outcome in pursuing this course is decidedly ominous.”

China’s core aspirations to dominate the world’s auto industry – and by natural extension, manufacturing as a whole – has been outlined with specificity by eMOTION! REPORTS, as evidenced by its December 2009 release “GM’s Transition to China“.

Publisher Myron D. Stokes stated that “It is our understanding several members of the original federally designated GM Task Force have been, and are, acting in the interests of China and not the US. We believe that the data presented in the December release and other analyses presented over the years, supports this contention.” –  Full release (http://ow.ly/2Js0y)

Original Release

Detroit, MI, December 28, 2009 (PressReleasePoint) — eMOTION! REPORTS.com, (www.emotionreports.com ) an automotive/aerospace industries research and analysis site founded in 2001 targeting professionals within the academic, media, corporate and government sectors, has recently released “2009/2010 Auto Industry Analysis: GM’s Transition to China” that takes dead aim at the primary culprit in the near destruction of the US industrial base and financial sector meltdown: China.

Forbidden City PLA Military Parade Image: PLA/PRC

In driving the point home, several key statements, based on observable, quantifiable data are made:

1. General Motors Company is now under the de facto control of the China auto sector.

2. The bankruptcy and rush to sell-off core GM assets inclusive of Opel, Saab, Saturn, Pontiac, Hummer and GMAC, was all part of a well orchestrated strategy launched over two decades ago by Beijing to capture the US auto industry, even as Japan, South Korea and Europe, in a notably less destructive way, had initiated their own.

3. The implementation of this strategy was aided and abetted by shortsighted and irresponsible individuals within industry, government and academia.

4. Recommends that Saab and Volvo are immediately nationalized to prevent total capture by the China auto sector, which in several instances has been represented by front companies.

5. Commends those European countries, inclusive of Belgium, Spain, UK and the Flemish government, who worked together to prevent the selloff of Opel; a circumstance representing profoundly negative economic implications had it been accomplished as originally intended.

6. Reveals, based on still classified data and imagery within US State Department and Department of Defense (DoD) archives, that Mao Zhedong, in a move echoing that of Josef Stalin, ordered the extermination of old and infirm Chinese he deemed unable to work in the aftermath of his defeat of the nationalist forces of Generalissimo Chaing Kai-Shek in 1949. The number of those killed in the days and weeks transpiring subsequent to order issuance, at least 70 million and as high as 120 million, exceeds by several orders of magnitude the known estimates in the 1949-1976 timeframe which included “The Great Leap Forward”. It is worth noting the higher estimate at the time represented half of the population of the United States.

A slight expansion of an eyewitness account, presented with surrounding context from the analysis, follows:

“How the present position of GM was set in motion is an exercise in a somewhat greedy corporate strategy flanked by blinders. In a quest for expansion and untapped Asian dollars GM, several decades ago, made the bold move of seeking out a business footprint in that Communist-controlled country.

“As its presence grew, the evidences of China’s dubious human history were there to be seen by anyone who looked.

Consolidated PBY-5 Catalina Flying Boat of The Type That Discovered Evidence of a Heretofore Historically Unacknowledged Atrocity of Arguably Unprecedented Proportions Against Chinese Civilians, or Humanity -- Perpetuated by, Ideologically, The Same Maoist Government Still Controlling The People's Republic of China

Visions of the country’s forced one-child family policy, detention centers for those citizens seeking redress from corrupt officials, the Stalin-esque elimination of millions of elderly no longer able to work… (note: Eyewitness accounts include those of contract Air Cargo personnel for the US military who reported “rivers choked bank to bank with bodies of the old and infirm, hands tied with wire behind their backs, as far as the eye could see at our radar avoiding’ flight level and line of sight of seven miles. We used high-resolution cameras in our [Consolidated] PBY [Catalina Flying Boat] to document these observations, with a death toll estimate partially corroborated by the Red Cross and other capable people of at least 70 Million. We chanced upon this horrific scene while flying along the coast over the East China Sea not far from Shanghai, when we observed at least a thousand sharks headed inland. Having no idea what would be bringing the sharks in, we flew lower for a closer look and followed them up a river for approximately five or six miles to a sight we will never forget: a massive feeding frenzy on human victims.”) … or college students who protested were avoidable if one looked in a different direction. Also ignored was China’s blatant disregard for anyone else’s property or intellectual property rights.”

So? That Was 60 Years Ago..

As such, history is changed: This is the worst atrocity ever perpetuated on humanity by humans, and the government responsible still exists in ideologically the exact same form. And considering current demands by Chinese historians and Beijing that Japan acknowledges the Nanjing atrocities in 1937, their own admission of what can rightly be called a crime with no historical equal would tend to add a measure of moral substance in their calls for justice.

7. That China, through continuous and exponentially intensified espionage activities over decades, has succeeded in stealing core industrial and defense technologies inclusive of Lockheed-Martin/Boeing F-22 Raptor, Lockheed-Martin F-35 Lightning II, Boeing C-17 Globemaster III and the whole of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) system.

Stokes, an award winning former Newsweek, Newsweek Japan and Newsweek International correspondent, notes that the content of this analysis is virtually devoid of assertion, opinion and subjectivity to the extent possible. “As we stated in a 2003 release relative to the analysis ‘Super-Globalism: Strategies for Maintaining a Robust Industrial Base Through Technological, Policy and Process Improvement’, it is not our intent to be fair and balanced, but to present the facts as we know them to be.”

The analysis in many ways is powerfully supported by the recent findings of the United States-China Economic and Security Review Commission (http://www.uscc.gov)  in its 2009 Report to Congress. Among its determinations:

* China’s role in the financial sector meltdown on a global scale to advance its own economic interest.

* China’s extensive use of foreign propaganda and its efforts to influence public opinion and policymaking in the United States.

*China’s use of subsidies and other trade distorting measures in violation of its international commitments.

* China’s detailed industrial policy designed to attract foreign investment and production and to create “national champions” to compete on a global scale.

Significance of Congressional Report

According to national security strategist and Director of MBA Programs, Walsh College, Dr. Sheila Ronis, “For years, the USCC has produced substantive data in support of its Congressional mandate to monitor China’s compliance with the qualifying parameters of WTO membership. These data have been presented yearly since 2000 with increasing levels of concern. This year’s report will forever lay to rest the dismissive opinions of those China apologists who placed profit ahead of national security.”

And if one is inclined to think that USCC report is mere China-bashing, think again: US Intelligence services have confirmed that China, through its unrelenting espionage activities, has succeeded in stealing the core operational and manufacturing technologies for Lockheed-Martin/Boeing F-22 Raptor, Lockheed-Martin F-35 Lightning II, Boeing C-17 Globemaster III and the whole of the LMCO Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense system. The latter being core to US naval defensive and offensive capabilities. Conversely, GM and Ford management can assume that everything –inclusive of Ford’s Simplified Flexible Cell-based Manufacturing Process recently installed, foolishly, in China facilities — they know about their own technology and process, their China auto sector partners know. In other words, the teachers have outlived their usefulness.

“China’s role in this disaster,” said Stokes, “Is not dissimilar to the findings of a colleague, Michigan State University Professor of Physiology Dr. Robert Root-Bernstein in his 1993 pivotal work “Rethinking AIDS: The Tragic Cost of Premature Consensus” which sought to change the conversation and the research direction for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Dr. Root-Bernstein, reflecting the findings of fellow researchers, postulated that contrary to the accepted assumptions/arguments relative to AIDS disease pathology and epidemiology which took the stance — elements of which are still largely intact even today in the medical research community and expressed publicly by the CDC — that HIV equals AIDS, or the diametrically opposite view it is harmless, the virus instead acts as an adjuvant and potentiator causing preexisting and concomitant infections to behave synergistically. The body’s immune system, no longer being able to differentiate between friend and foe, declares war on itself (this is what Sun Tzu advocated in “The Art of War”). This, we believe, is a most appropriate analogy in that the concomitant elements represent traditional auto industry leadership, the unions, automotive and business media, the supplier base and policy makers who, against their own mutual best interest, have engaged in decades of antagonistic behavior towards each other. This, China has exploited brilliantly and ruthlessly”, he said.

Dr. Ronis corroborates this contention. “Abundantly clear at this juncture,” she says, “Is that those in leadership positions within industry and government, both here and abroad, have not read their Sun Tzu, and they now find themselves in mortal combat with those, the Chinese, who are masters of the game.”

Stokes further notes that “Another way of looking at this is that of someone shooting you at close range and then offering triage to stop the bleeding, Think of China’s 2008 activities in terms of shoring up the crumbling economies of various western countries through large purchases of various goods inclusive of BMW and Jaguar vehicles. As Confucius ably articulated in c.469 B.C., ‘Where there is arrogance, there is opportunity.’”

Stokes also believes that media should rethink their approach to industry reportage especially with critical infrastructure involved that is part and parcel to national and economic security. “With rare exceptions found amongst colleagues at The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Detroit News, Oakland Press, Bloomberg and Business Week, an incurious automotive and business media has been a hand maiden in an unmitigated disaster almost totally of our own making”, he said. “Commendably, these colleagues, despite pressures from editorial boards, corporate PR personnel and media peers to take the path of least resistance, maintained the highest standards of journalism.”

Stokes recalled mentioning to a corporate PR associate recently concerning the criticality of China’ activities: “The Barbarians are not at the gate, they are inside the gate. Applying a modern warfare scenario, the battle status is so dire, the enemy so close, we have to call in an airstrike on our own position.”

Re-evaluation of Position

China itself will have to re-evaluate its position that is being revealed as designed to overtake the US economically and militarily. “China must understand”, concludes Ronis, “That it would not be in their best interests to continue pursuit of certain ideological objectives at the risk of further geo-political destabilization, and missed opportunities to address shared concerns relative to common and serious threats.”
